Shed The Fear

I gave a few media interviews while in Edmonton last week as part of my Taboo contract.

This one article was published today in the local alternative newspaper (like our Georgia Straight) and it was written by a most lovely woman named Brenda. I liked her a lot and enjoyed the time we spent talking.

Whenever I see myself through the eyes of others, I am most often surprised by what I encounter.

Edmonton Sex Education

Here I sit in my hotel room in Edmonton Alberta. I am in town of course for the Taboo Sex Show. Over the next four days I will teach twelve classes for the show and do a couple of media interviews.

FRONTLINE GOES UNDERCOVER TO EXPOSE THE RITUAL SEXUAL ABUSE OF BOYS IN AFGHANISTAN


FRONTLINE Presents The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan
Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 9 P.M. ET on PBS

As the United States deepens its commitment to Afghanistan, FRONTLINE takes viewers inside the war-torn nation to reveal a disturbing practice that is once again flourishing in the country: the organized sexual abuse of adolescent boys.

In The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan, airing Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at 9 P.M. on PBS (check local listings), Afghan journalist Najibullah Quraishi (Behind Taliban Lines) returns to his native land to expose an ancient practice that has been brought back by powerful warlords, former military commanders and wealthy businessmen. Known as “bacha bazi” (literal translation: “boy play”), this illegal practice exploits street orphans and poor boys, some as young as 11, whose parents are paid to give over their sons to their new “masters.”

The men dress the boys in women’s clothes and train them to sing and dance for the entertainment of themselves and their friends. According to experts, the dancing boys are used sexually by these powerful men.

In detailed conversations with several bacha bazi masters in northern Afghanistan and with the dancing boys they own, reporter Quraishi reveals a culture where wealthy Afghan men openly exploit some of the poorest, most vulnerable members of their society.


“What was so unnerving about the men I had met was not just their lack of concern for the damage their abuse was doing to the boys,” Quraishi says. “It was also their casualness with which they operated and the pride with which they showed me their boys, their friends, their world. They clearly believed that nothing they were doing was wrong.”


Under the guise of doing a documentary on similar practices in Europe, Quraishi gained the confidence of Dastager, a former mujahideen commander and wealthy businessman whose business interests include importing autos from the Far East. With Dastager as his guide, Quraishi takes viewers inside the world of bacha bazi, where prominent men compete to own and use the boys.


“I had a boy because every commander had a partner,” says Mestary, a former senior commander who is well connected with major Afghan warlords. “Among the commanders there is competition, and if I didn’t have one, then I could not compete with them.”

“I go to every province to have happiness and pleasure with boys,” says an Afghan man known as “The German,” who acts as a bacha bazi pimp, supplying boys to the men. “Some boys are not good for dancing, and they will be used for other purposes. ... I mean for sodomy and other sexual activities.”

“It’s a disgusting practice. ... It’s a form of slavery, taking a child, keeping him. It’s a form of sexual slavery,” says Radhika Coomaraswamy, U.N. special representative for Children and Armed Conflict. “The only way to stop bacha bazi is if you prosecute the people who commit the crime, and that’s what we need, because the laws are there in the books against this practice.”
In the documentary, Quraishi interviews local police officials who insist that men who participate in bacha bazi will be arrested and punished regardless of their wealth or powerful connections. Later that day, however, Quraishi’s cameras catch two officers from the same police department attending an illegal bacha bazi party.

“Many of the people who do this work for the government,” says Nazir Alimy, who compiled a report on bacha bazi for UNICEF. “They speak out against it but are abusers themselves. ... I personally cannot mention any names because I am scared.”

Quraishi speaks with some dancing boys who fear they will be beaten or killed. “If they stray, they get killed,” says a 13-year-old dancing boy. “Sometimes fighting happens among the men who own the boys. If you don’t please them, they beat you, and people get killed.”

Quraishi also talks with the family of 15-year-old Hafiz, who reportedly was murdered after trying to escape from his master, a well-known drug baron and warlord. In Hafiz’s case, a suspect -- the policeman who supplied the gun that killed Hafiz -- was arrested and convicted. Sentenced to 16 years in prison, the officer was released after serving only a few months. Hafiz’s family says they suspect the boy’s former owner bribed local officials to win his release.

“If only these people were punished, this kind of thing wouldn’t happen,” Hafiz’s mother says. “Whoever commits these crimes doesn’t get punished. Power is power.”

The program will conclude with a detailed update of attempts to arrange the rescue of one of the dancing boys profiled in the film, an 11-year-old boy bought by Dastager from an impoverished rural family. It is a dramatic final chapter, full of new shocks and surprises, and, in the end, provides a measure of justice for the boy and his master.

This is not clothing optional.

This is a nude, skinnydipping event but will only take a few minutes so please make sure you have signed the participant sheets volunteers will be carrying on clipboards or at the table we will have set up.

148-year ban overturned by highest court

An Indian court has overturned a 148-year-old colonial law banning homosexual relationships, saying it was an affront to human dignity.

Same-sex couples with rainbow-painted faces kissed at Delhi's Jantar Mantar monument in scenes that would have been unthinkable in conservative India before the ban was lifted. The ban was introduced by British officials and describes sexual intercourse between people of the same sex as an "unnatural offence."

Government lawyers said same-sex relationships were "indecent," against Indian values, and if decriminalized would lead to an increase in delinquent behaviour and pose a health hazard.

Their argument was rejected yesterday by Delhi's High Court judges who said the ban denied homosexuals equal rights.

Muslim clerics and the Roman Catholic church spokesmen said they still regarded homosexuality as immoral.

Ahmed Bukhari, the chief imam at Delhi's Jama Masjid mosque, said: "This is absolutely wrong. We will not accept any such law."

RCMP Tasering Incident

Dirty, filthy sex

A Saanich police officer got an unexpected eyeful when he found a couple having sex in a dumpster early Friday morning.

The call to police had simply reported people walking suspiciously behind a business near the corner of Quadra Street and McKenzie Avenue around 1:45 a.m.

"When the officer was out of his car having a look around, checking doors he could hear noises coming from the dumpster," said Sgt. John Price.

The officer called out and got no response, so he pulled out his flashlight and took a look inside.

"He peeked over the edge and in the bottom of the dumpster, a man and a woman (were) full-on nude, intertwined, oblivious to his presence," Price said, confirming the pair were in the act.

The couple complied when ordered to put on their clothes and get out of the dumpster. A 26-year-old man was taken into custody by Oak Bay Police on an unrelated outstanding warrant. A 30-year-old woman was simply told to go home.

The Third Sex is Intersex

I spend a lot of my time talking with people about their sexuality and gender. Over the last couple of years there has been more public talk about a third sex and others openly sharing their truth. Many call the third sex, Intersex.

Three current Libido Lounge members identify as being Intersex. Two are medically diagnosed and one is self appointed. It has been a privilege to learn from these people as they have shared their personal journey's with me and their deepest secret of the issue of their gender.

CBC has a documentary coming up at midnight on the 26th of this month, channel 26, it's an hour long and promised to be riveting and eye-opening.

The sexual identity of a person is usually the first question one asks about a newborn: "Is it a boy or a girl?" To most parents the answer is a simple one. But what about the parents of a child born with both female and male genitals? It's a reality no one dares to speak about, the so-called third sex. Erotic Arts Expert?

Today I landed my photo and a decent interview in the Vancouver Courier newspaper, both the on-line version and the print edition. Attention is always nice.

You can read the article yourself and take a gander at the image they decided to use from the photo shoot we did yesterday. Me and my whip.

They had wanted me in handcuffs and holding a whip at the same time. Wrong. I needed to explain to the photographer that the handcuffed person does not also hold the whip. It was fun to do, none the less.

Today RC and I were gifted with a hand made bottle of massage oil, thanks P.

This evening the corset company from Atlanta Georgia that is exhibiting at Taboo rented out the Lounge. There was a pizza party, along with a meet n greet for all the volunteers I had organized for them. Everyone really enjoyed meeting Ms.Martha and loved the corsets, the women were all happy choosing which one they would receive for their volunteer hours.

Still this evening I have another ninety minutes or so left of work to do, before I can put my head down on the pillow and go to sleep.

My man is the best, he loves me so much and I simply adore him. Last night he brought me and the teenager home gifts. The daughter got four pair of monkey socks which she was really happy with and I was given knee high camouflage socks. Everyone we know and all the women in my life, think he is just super and a great family man. I am so lucky to have found him, or rather to have been found by him.

The Taboo Sex Show 2009

I am feeling pretty weary right at this exact moment. My alarm had me waking at six fifty this morning for a photo shoot in the downtown city core for a Vancouver newspaper. I arrived looking all pretty, and on time. We did our interview yesterday, and it seemed to go rather well. I was quite pleased by the questions the reporter asked and equally happy with the reception the photographer gave me in the studio this morning.

The article is about my involvement with The Taboo Sex Show and of course the classes that I am teaching.

Taboo starts this Thursday and the article comes out tomorrow, so Wednesday. I've been told I will be in both the on-line edition and the print paper as well. I am eager to see how it all turns out, though any publicity is always good. However the better the journalist the more people are turned on to myself, Libido Events and my Erotic Arts Curriculum.

I have another interview booked at Taboo itself, right after one of my classes too, the next few days are really huge for me. And tiresome.

A couple of hours ago, I picked up three hundred and seventy five dollars worth of handouts for the show to accompany my classes from a brilliant printer friend.

Shortly I will be packing my bags for each class, so each day I can just grab the bags I need and head out the door without needing to search out all my aides and toys. Two different classes each day, for four days. That is a lot of work. Plus the networking, question answering in person and in email, and all the set up and take down of each class will keep me on fast speed till Sunday night.

Now if I could find a way to stop my period woes, which has just started today, I may just be able to make it through the rest of this week without losing my marbles. I loath cramps.

Asphyxiation Death

This sad but very true store has further affirmed for me, why practicing what some call "breath play" is so not worth the risks associated with it.

Over the years I have known a number of people who engaged in the practice of asphyxiation but the draw was never there for me. As a person who believes in safer sex, the notion to do this and call it sexy, safe or exciting is baffling to me. As a mother, the risk is more than I am willing to take.

DA: Jumper strangled girlfriend

COURTHOUSE — A Bridgeport man who decapitated himself jumping off the Dannehower Bridge Saturday afternoon had apparently accidentally strangled his live-in girlfriend while the two were having sex, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Just before 2 p.m., 43-year-old James F. Goeke drove a burgundy minivan halfway across the northbound side of the bridge that crosses the Schuylkill River, and parked the vehicle on the shoulder.

The man tied a rope to the minivan’s back seat and put the other end around his neck and jumped off the bridge, and after “falling a great distance,” the rope decapitated him. His body and head landed on Barbadoes Island, according to District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

Upper Merion and Norristown police were the first on the scene and saw the man on the railing with a rope around his neck. “Upon arrival of police officers, (Goeke) jumped off the bridge,” the DA said.

When investigators later went to Goeke’s Belmont Village apartment on Ross Road, they immediately smelled “the odor of death” even before entering the unit, Ferman said. Minutes later, police found a woman’s badly decomposed body under a blanket in the master bedroom.

Investigators determined the dead woman was 42-year-old Michelle Kavenaugh, who lived in the apartment with Goeke. She was naked and lying on her back and had a belt from a cloth robe around her neck, according to authorities.

“It appeared the two were involved in consensual sexual relations,” the DA said. “This appears to be an accidental killing.”

Investigators believe the homicide inside the Belmont Village Apartments unit occurred within the past week.

Goeke left behind a signed suicide note on a computer table in the residence’s living room that read: “I’m sorry. It was an accident. It was too late to save her. I’m going to join her now. I’m sorry.”

“He was so devastated, he took his own life,” Ferman said. “Clearly, this is a tragedy all the way around.”

An autopsy performed Sunday concluded Kavenaugh’s death was caused by ligature strangulation.

Blouses, Hair Style & Mac Book Pro

There is a bloody spinning wheel of doom on my computer and I can not handle it any more. It slows me down and makes me less productive than I need to be. My Mac iBook G4 has served me well for close to five years now and is imminently on-its-way-out. It's retirement time now.

Tomorrow or Friday I am marching myself off to the Mac store, and purchasing a new Mac Book Pro. Cash in hand, I plan on walking out the door with one of those slick new machines.

This computer will be gutted out and given to the teenager so she has her own laptop.

Today has been a day of running around. I did some personal shopping, took my daughter to an orthodontics appointment, went out for lunch, paid bills, hit the PO box, managed a manicure along with a pedicure and finally had a stop at Costco to spend more than I should have.

At an adult store out in the valley today the owner gave me a new sex toy to try out and a nice payment of money for some upcoming work I will be doing with them. I'm more than pleased for the opportunity and thrilled to be sought after. My calendar is filled beyond imaginable these days, work is in abundance at it is all very lucrative.

I made it home in time to throw RC on the bed and roll around with him wrestling and making out before the teenager came in announcing we were loud and nutty.

The internet crashed while I was working and I had a mini melt down before my knight was able to restore the issue after his calm phone call to our ISP.

My next crisis is not as easy to problem solve. I have three, count them 3, TV interviews over the next couple of weeks. This is the good part. The not so great part, is that I do not own any blouses that I can wear on the news. Not a one. Nothing. And to add further grief, I am in dire need of a new hair style and professional color job. Something radical, something that shines with pizzaz, and yet I have no clue what to do.

The blouse shopping will happen at Holt Renfrew very early next week. I'm somewhat hesitant about shopping there as the store has a feel that makes me uncomfortable fairly quick, though RC has assured me that Holt *is* the answer to the blouse issue. I trust him and so, I shall follow him there. I don't like stores that are hoity-toity, they make my stomach flip. It should be a real experience to see how I do shopping for this necessary wardrobe staple, most likely I'll end up with two different ones so I won't be needing to repeat this shopping trip any time soon.

Now the hair appointment, is where I am hoping you can help. Do you know of a salon that does amazing work with long hair and coloring and resembles trendy, yet unique? The cost matters somewhat, but not all that much at this point, the hairdresser just must be incredible and available within the next 6 days. Burnaby would be awesome, though I'd travel to Vancouver or the North shore for the right place. Can you help a girl out and point me in some solid directions, because I'm rather clueless on this one.

While I'm at it, hell you could even send me suggestions on where to blouse shop too if you know of any really great places that are not small boutiques. I want a large collection to look through and a place that has lots of styles and colors in it, not just this seasons must-haves.

The Support I've gathered

Daily I am reminded of how long I have been involved in sex culture, over a decade now.

People write me and tell me of my immense impact on their lives. It is incredible to hear how I have helped shaped others realities in such a positive way.

There is nothing more rewarding than unsolicited emails of thanks and praise. I am baffled though at the sheer volume of individuals whom I have had the fortune of meeting.

Some I met while teaching a public class. Others I met while leading their class in a college or university. More I've met through email exchanges. Thousands upon thousands I've met at trade shows while I led them on a path of discovery. More I have run across in private coaching sessions. Still others at sex clubs, sex camps and alternative venues when they have come to hear me speak and see my presentations. Others flock towards me for the guest speakers I bring to town and they want to meet. Friends send their friends to me. Supporters quietly tell others of who I am and how I can aid them. The newspaper regularly directs people towards me with bold catch phrases, cover stories, feature articles and my photo. My blog invites people to know me and sex culture no matter where people hail from me.


I'm flattered beyond belief regarding the attention I get.

I am becoming the woman I always wanted to be, but never knew how to create for myself.

It is through all those that I have met and worked with, that I have been shaped into who I am today.

All over the map

They arrived one after another. Seventeen people were at Member Orientation tonight. What a great group of individuals to welcome to our new home and sex culture.

I thoroughly enjoyed the class, and much humor was intermixed as well making everything light, fun and fast paced for all.

Can you believe that we are over 280 members deep already? And still going strong. By years end, I can't wait to see where we are with our member base in terms of numbers.

I've been readying for the Abbotsford Taboo show next week. Those of you who sent in your SASE should have your FREE tickets by now, or Monday as I mailed them out a few days past.
If you plan on attending make sure you take in one of my classes or at the least come by and say hello.

It looks as though I have a new contract with a different large entity and may be ready to start making announcements some time soon. Once their deposit check clears and I know exactly what I will be doing I'll update you with the particulars. Really just information on what channel and when as I wouldn't want any one to miss me educating and inspiring the general public with what we are all so passionate about.

The attention is a tad nerve wracking though the exposure is more than I ever could afford out of my own pocket. So, on with the show!
